Researchers in EAEI focus on three broad areas: Energy Markets, Policy, and Infrastructure; Energy and Environmental Systems Analysis; and Appliance and Equipment Energy Efficiency Standards.

We develop analytical and experimental methods and tools to assess the technical, economic and market potential of energy technologies, as well as the associated social, economic, health and environmental impacts.
Research +
EAEI researchers provide unbiased, scientific, high quality and innovative research and technical assistance to government agencies in the United States and throughout the world. We help these entities develop long-term strategies, policies and programs that facilitate energy efficiency and the deployment of clean energy technology with minimum environmental and health impacts in all sectors and industries.

Electricity Markets & Policy R&D 100 Award

November 20, 2018

The Energy Analysis & Environmental Impacts Division's Electricity Markets & Policy Group won the 2018 R&D 100 Award for eProject Builder, a secure, web-based data management tool developed by Berkeley Lab with funding from the Department of Energy. It is the only nationwide system that standardizes the collection and tracking of information for energy/water retrofit projects implemented by energy service companies.

The development team includes Peter H. Larsen, principal investigator/research scientist; Elizabeth Stuart, program manager; Shankar Earni, program manager/engineer; Phil Coleman, program manager; Biju Jacob and Yeongshnn Ong, computer systems engineers in Berkeley Lab’s Computational Research Division; Michael Spears, software developer; and Hannah Stratton, senior research associate.
