Junping Ji's research interests include greenhouse gas emissions accounting, mitigation potentials and related costs, paths to emission peaking in cities, and policy analysis on the low-carbon development of cities in China. Dr. Ji received his Ph.D. in Environmental Science from Peking University in 2013, and his B.S. in environmental science from Tongji University in 2006.

After his Ph.D., Dr. Ji joined Zhejiang Economic Information Center (also known as Zhejiang Center for Climate Change and Low-carbon Development Cooperation) as a policy analyst. Since 2015 he is a postdoctoral fellow at Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School. At LBNL, Dr. Ji is working on several key issues of low-carbon development in Shenzhen, such as the roadmap for peaking carbon dioxide emissions, recycling of retired electric-vehicle batteries and energy conservation in buildings with IoT-based intelligent energy management systems.
